YONECO, through the Forest Land Restoration (FLR) project, has rewarded three top science students from each of the 14 schools in the areas of Traditional Authority (T/A) Mpando and T/A Kwataine in Ntcheu district.
The initiative, which is being funded by FAO, aims to support the restoration of the Mpira Dam catchment area by promoting a culture of tree planting and care among primary and secondary school learners.
The purpose of these rewards is to motivate students to excel in their studies while also engaging in Forest Land Restoration activities, such as establishing woodlots and fruit orchards, among other interventions.
The prizes awarded to the outstanding students include school bags, T-shirts, golf shirts, exercise books, calculators and branded mugs.
Of the 14 schools participating, ten are primary schools namely Mwansambe, Chibweya, Nan-Ray, Nkhande, Chipusile, Ntcheu Catholic, Gomeza, Mdeka, Chikuse, and Gongolo. Additionally, there is Hope Nursery School as well as Ntcheu Secondary School and Ntcheu Community Day Secondary School (CDSS).
